Publications / Presentations

Below are a series of presentations offered to teach the basics of intellectual property law for starting a new business.  This series of presentations begin with a fictitious startup company called “Gelato on J-Square.”  Two siblings, Jack and Jill, have this great idea for starting a gelato store that capitalizes on the social media craze and on their secret family recipe for gelato.  They have carefully written their business plan.  They have successfully market-tested the gelato with friends and schoolmates.  They have built and tested a robust software application for making purchase orders through an app on smart devices and returning a receipt with pick-up time for the order.  They have designed a logo and overall image for the gelato store.  They have raised enough startup capital from family and friends to run the business for at least six months.  In short, they are ready to launch.

At this point, Jack and Jill need to work through the process of getting intellectual property protection for the application of their ideas, choose the right business form, obtain additional funding, hire the right employees and choose the right business partners.  This ongoing series of presentations will address these scenarios.  Please click on the link for the presentation.
