Benét is originally from Columbia, Tennessee. She is married to Tim Theiss, a program manager at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Benét and Tim have two sons, Corey and John Cothron, and a daughter, Elizabeth. The family attends Kingston Church of Christ. She is an active volunteer with Boy Scout Cub Pack 101 and the Roane County High School Band.
